Description
Full of charm and traditional Chinese character, the JIANGXI Antique Chinese Trunk dates from around 1920 and originates from Dongbei in northeastern China. Crafted from Chinese pine, this lovely piece features beautifully aged hand-painted decoration, with soft green tones, flowering branches and delicate pink and coral blossoms set against a warm, earthy background.
Traditionally, Chinese trunks were used to store clothing, textiles and treasured possessions, often forming an important part of the household. The JIANGXI retains this practical appeal, with a spacious interior and a particularly clever hinged lid that opens three-quarters of the way back. This allows the trunk to sit neatly against a wall while still providing easy access to the storage inside.
Its compact proportions make it wonderfully versatile. Use it as a bedside chest, occasional table, hallway storage or at the foot of a bed. The painted blossom decoration brings a lovely sense of nature into the home, with flowers traditionally representing renewal, beauty and happiness in Chinese art.
With its original character, decorative detailing and beautifully worn finish, the JIANGXI is a charming piece of antique oriental furniture that combines useful storage with a little history.
