Chinese antiques introduce a wonderfully strong statement to a home, propelling the look to a real wow factor. These images show the journey of this traditional furniture from China to Orchid’s stores. Orchid’s reproduction Chinese furniture is finished using the same traditional hand-painted decoration and lacquering methods which have been passed down the generations.

Traditional furniture from the 19th and 20th centuries are salvaged from provinces across China and await restoration. Damaged wood is sympathetically matched and replaced, and the frames strengthened before cosmetic work begins. Finishing includes renewing the decoration and hardware and lacquering the furniture. The lacquer is mixed and applied by hand, layer upon layer, achieving the wonderful depth and patina demonstrated throughout Orchid's entire collections of hand-finished luxury furniture.

Orchid’s founder,  Mimmi Brink, travels extensively throughout China to carefully select every piece according to its form, function and appeal. These pieces are then restored to their potential and then shipped to Orchid to be photographed and displayed both in store and online.
