A restored antique traditional Chinese camphor wood opera trunk which would date back to c.1910.
Originally used to store robes and linens, the traditional hand-painted scene on the front of this large wooden trunk depicts a scene for a Chinese opera. The decoration also includes the Oriental Everlasting Knot, which symbolioses longevity; Good Fortune is also represented in the floral paintings.
Use this substantial distressed red lacquer storage chest for seasonal bed linen storage, toy storage or as a roomy shoe storage chest.
Display in a hallway or at the foot of a bed, where it could double as a useful perch.
Chinese lacquer is generally easy to care for. A soft duster will remove fingerprints, a silicone furniture cleaning spray will restore the lustre and spills can be removed with a soft, slightly damp cloth.
There is a risk of wood splitting, discolouring or warping if placed directly next to a heat source (including under floor heating) or in sunlight.
