Orchid has an ever changing range of 19th Century Chinese antiques and artefacts, in the styles of the Ming (1368–1644) and Qing (1644–1911) Dynasties.
We carefully select these pieces on our travels to China where we visit restorers’ workshops. The restorers gather pieces from all over China and work to match the materials, style and colours of the original piece.
Colours range from light brown lacquered Elm through to a rich black lacquer or Cinnabar red. The materials are predominantly Elm, Cedar, Ju and Camphor wood often inlaid with stone or lacquered woven rattan.
We pay particular attention to the size, finish and quality of each piece ensuring that we select classic and simple designs which will sit comfortably with other furniture in any style of English home, be it traditional or contemporary. Each piece comes with a Certificate of Antiquity illustrating its original use, province of origin and age.
The fascinating collection of Chinese artefacts are functional yet beautiful to look at, and make ideal presents including document boxes, pillow boxes, rice measures, buckets and doughnut boxes.
19th century Chinese carved window panels make beautiful and unusual wall-hangings, these generally come in pairs with symmetrical designs offering a different picture from all angles.
